Of the following thesis statements, which is the best fit for a philosophical analysis essay? A. In Shakespeare's Macbeth, the titular character's belief in chivalry is contradicted by his frequent immoral actions. B. Gregor's transformation into a beetle in Franz Kafka's The Metamorphosis symbolizes nature's apathy toward institutions. C. Pollutants from the nearby power plant are responsible for a higher risk of lung cancer in neighboring communities. D. The current policy of sending criminals to prison is less effective than investing in social programs and rehabilitation.
Hmm, did they give you any examples to work with. Typically a philosophical analysis is to take something apart and examine the philosophical issues.
no
Urg... I would have to run with a best guess... The fact that it is a philosophical analysis is in the process more than the thesis.
yea
The frequent immoral actions sounds like breaking it down. nature's apathy toward institutions sounds philosophical. D also sounds philosophical. I can basically toss out C... and that is it. Not very good.
Well, if I wanted to know what the term meant.... http://www-bcf.usc.edu/~soames/sel_pub/Philosophical_Analysis.pdf LOL
And I found this as an example of one: The essential philosophical claim advanced in the film Blade Runner is that the fundamental value of life lies not in its length but in its quality. To be fully alive is to live every moment as if it were one's last moment, because although every life has a limit, to be "mortal" means that every moment contains within itself the possibility of that limit being realized. This is the lesson that Tyrell imparts to Roy, it is the lesson that Roy passes on to Deckard, and ultimately it is the lesson that the film conveys to its audience.
