I need help with simplifying

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[\frac{ 4u^4v^-2 }{ u^-4}\]

OpenStudy (joannablackwelder):

Is that (4u^4v^-2)/u^-4?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes it is. i hate how it is so difficult to see

OpenStudy (joannablackwelder):

Ok. I like to make all exponents positive first. That would make it (4u^4u^4)/v^2 Make sense so far?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes it does

OpenStudy (joannablackwelder):

Now you can combine the u's by adding the exponents. 4u^8/v^2

OpenStudy (joannablackwelder):

Done :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Awesome!!! Thank you! :)

OpenStudy (joannablackwelder):

No problem.
