I need someone to help me answer this question: Why, in Key's view, does the embargo play into Britain's hands? And why did he regard his proposed alternative as more effective? [Read E.1. to answer the question] http://pages.northcantonschools.org/~hck/data/ctc1nc/files/Spirit-Embargo_docs.pdf

Here's a picture of the document

Well I know is that Both Britain and France imposed trade restrictions in order to weaken each others' economies. In Key's view, he was critical about it. In this passage," Our most fertile lands are reduced to sterility. It will drive our seamen into foreign employ, and our fishermen to foreign sandbanks. . . . It has dried up our revenue". He was upset that The Embargo Act of 1807 practically ruined his economy and ruined commerce with the international community. He said, "Look at England; see her conduct to us" He need Us to be strong and not let them take over. He wants us pursue in the steady line. He wants them to "quit the ocean" and wants us to be isolationism.That is what I see in his point of view. He believes it is war if we carry on, trading and ruining economy.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wait i thought he wanted to trade not stop trade and be isolated cuz they already are..?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Let me read it again.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Hero ...last hope here

hero (hero):

Good luck with this @yummydum... You're a smart girl...I'm sure you can figure out how to answer the question. Just take your time, read it and try to answer the question the best way you can.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I've read it over so many times its just not making sense to me...I'm only asking for help because I NEED help

hero (hero):

I glanced over it...I don't believe it is that difficult to understand, although the way Mr. Key expresses himself in certain instances might throw you off a bit. For example, he says, "If that be the case, if such should be the result, then \(\color\red{\text{WILL}}\) the embargo, of all measures, be the most acceptable to Britain." Now in this format, it seems like a question, but it ends with a period. But, what he is really saying is: "If that be the case, if such should be the result, then the embargo, of all measures, \(\color\red{\text{will}}\) be most acceptable to Britain." One word can throw the whole meaning/interpretation off. Read carefully. This is not something that is beyond your ability to understand.

OpenStudy (nincompoop):

nice answers

OpenStudy (anonymous):

that clears it up a little thanks!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@nincompoop yeah

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ohhhhh. Makes more sense...

OpenStudy (nincompoop):

Hero used a technique employed in MCAT (medical college admission test) verbal reasoning exam Exam Kräckers Prep test and Kaplan Prep test have a great handbook on how to approach this type of problem with different techniques, but the answers solely rely on what was written by the author, which means there are no extra knowledge required.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

omg i get that but i need to finish this thing like right now..i just want to be explained the document

OpenStudy (anonymous):

could you explain what the last 2 paragraphs say...thats basically all i need

hero (hero):

@nincompoop, I have no idea what you are talking about lol. I used a method employed by myself. Not Exam Crackers or Exam Busters or any such things.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

this is useless. oh well, I havent had an F in a while, should be a nice change

OpenStudy (nincompoop):

It's just a widely used techniqued used by grad students, and recommended for prep-test. @yummydum there's no explanation needed. Those are the effects offered by the author. I didn't read the whole thing, but here's what I think the interpretation of the last two paragraphs - I. The embargo might have some benefits, BUT it has not met the goal intended (or the effects it meant to provide). *3rd to the last paragraph is the main point* a. the embargo was to lessen the "belligerent's inducement to war," BUT instead it has invited their greed (cupidity), and the law had protected them. b. the embargo was suppose to improve the prices of the american produce (maybe it meant to make it more price competitive), BUT instead, if prolonged could have increased their prices, which is not an advantage at all, then lead to succumbing to Britain's demands.
