Can someone show me how to solve a right triangle problem using pythagorean theorem?

A2+b2=c2

|dw:1381428979012:dw| C is the hypotenuse, and A and B are the two shorter sides. Then, like @bicountry said, you can use \[A ^{2}+B ^{2}=C ^{2}\] to solve for your unknown variable.

So if you know that side A = 3 and side C=5, you can find side B by \[3^{2}+B ^{2}=5^{2} \] \[B ^{2}=5^{2} - 3^{2} \] \[B ^{2}=16 \] \[B=\sqrt{16}\] so B=4
