How many hours are in an OpenStudy day?
Regarding the "Days Studied" counter on an OpenStudy member's profile, how many hours online and active equal one day?
I think it just counts each day you go online. I'm not so sure though :I
I think I would agree with @♪Chibiterasu. Apparently I have been on for 64 days, but I joined more that 64 days ago. However, I have also not spent 1536 hours on OS. At least I don't think I have... >.>
@lncognlto its possible OpenStudy is crazy addictive.. for some odd reason.
Well, the OS day was designed by the same guy that came up with the Microsoft download time estimator. So it is between 1 and 567 hours. He thought 567 was a very progressive point to stop the day at.
@e.mccormick If an OS member's activity pop-up states "is just looking around" for six consecutive hours, is the OS clock still ticking for that person?
Hmmm... well, it is built on MongoDB, a NoSQL database. So it might have just forgotten to save their changed state.
I see this frequently. The user is not actively on the site but appears present in absentia. I don't know if this stems from not logging off before shutting down a computer or what.
Yah, some people brought it up before where you have to hover to see if they are really there or not. It is odd that one part can find a different status than the other.
I just saw that happen. Then, I saw that someone is offline. Yet another is "looking around" but has not posted anything for the last six hours. It is puzzling how this happens. When a person is offline, why doesn't the avatar vaporize, I wonder.
I think it has to do with them making the site faster. If they update every icon all the time it takes a lot of cycles. But if they just do it on things you try to interact with it cuts down on database lookups and client cpu use.
What is really odd is when I see an avatar stuck on a question for hours and hours and hours... and the person is offline. Or at least they do not take notice of anything and it has been 8 hours +.
It doesn't count the time you're online. It counts the amount of days you logged in. So it just works with dates, not hours.
i think 24 hours if your obssesed
Lol it's not 24 hours for everything, some websites have different ways of determining "days".
really
On/Off Line and Hover. Had another issue that shows why I think this is just a resource saving choice.
I think it just adds up all your hours up to 24 but then again this "fact" was just made up by me with no credibility so meh <shrugs>
Like I said before, it doesn't count "hours" at all Just a date. For example today is october 12. You're logging in, the server sees your last login was october 11. So days studies +1. this is for every day. even if you just log in for 10 seconds it adds 1 day.
I don't really count the hours or days I am logged into an openstudy, I'd only if i were to set a record of the biggest number of medals in the shortest time.
Interesting post, awesome answers. +1
