how do you graph the equation f(x)=|x-1| - 3?

OpenStudy (debbieg):

Do you know the basic shape of the graph of y=|x|? |dw:1381485786624:dw|

OpenStudy (debbieg):

Then use transformations to get f(x)=|x-1| - 3 f(x-c) is a horizontal shift of f(x) c units to the right (think about where the x intercept should go to). f(x-c) + k is a vertical shift of f(x-c), k units up IF k>0, and k units DOWN if k<0.

wow, thanks

OpenStudy (debbieg):

you're welcome
