x/a=y/b solve for x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

multiply both sides of the equation by a giving you: x = ya/b

OpenStudy (♪chibiterasu):

ok well all we have to do is multiply a on both sides: a(x/a) = a(y/b) x = a(y/b)

OpenStudy (♪chibiterasu):

ya/b is incorrect, you must apply it both to y and b.

@piglet9

OpenStudy (anonymous):

piglet is correct. The a can stay in the denominator or be out to the side. It makes no difference.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it is already being applied to b since it is in the numerator... for example: x/2 = y/9 multiply both sides by 2... x = (2/9)y is the same as 2y/9 my answer is correct.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[x=a \frac{ y }{ b }\] or \[x=\frac{ ay }{b}\] They're the same.

not sure how to mention that guys name... how do you write that music note?
