Can someone please paraphrase this History essay?
Medieval Europe and Japan have interesting pasts. In many ways Europe and Japan are very alike but also very different. The ways religion and economics influence the development of medieval Europe and Japan was by Christianity and the feudal system in Europe, while Shintoism and Buddhism and a similar structure to the feudal system in Japan. In Medieval Europe the life of the people revolved around the Catholic Church. The church was so powerful that it provided people with education, medicine, and helped through hard times. At one time the pope told the people that they needed to fight for
their land and the people did as the pope said. This shows just how powerful the pope is. Also the pope once brought down the one on the kings. In England the most influential religion was Catholicism, it was the most powerful and richest. It taught about the horrors of hell and the greatness of heaven. People paid 10% of their yearly earnings to the church. Those who couldn't afford it paid with seeds, grains, and animals. They were told that whoever didn’t go to the church would go to hell. These teachings influenced peace in Europe. Since the church receiving money and seeds from people and not being obligated to pay taxes Catholicism became rich. Shinto didn't control anyone. There was no heaven or hell according to the Shinto religion. The Shinto believed in Kami (Shinto god) and once someone passed away they would become a Kami. In Shinto, Kamis took the shape of nature, they could be mountains, rivers, a flower, etc. The Shinto also believed that if people had any evil in them it was caused by an evil spirit and to keep these spirits away they had to perform the Shinto rituals like praying, donating to the Kami, and purification. The Shinto believed that all people were good. In japan, religion was not as related to the economy. There are also many other religions in Japan that are very alike to the Shinto religion. Both Medieval Europe and Japan had a feudal government. Also both were built on a hereditary class system; the different classes can be organized into triangles. At the top of the trainable were the nobles, then came the warriors, tenant farmers, and at the very bottom where the serfs. Warriors (knights in Europe and samurai in japan) became the most important class in japan and Europe due to the constant warfare. The economy in medieval Europe and japan worked very differently. In Europe, the main source of economic wealth was the Catholic Church. People of the church (nearly everyone at the time) had to pay to be part of the church. in later years travel increased and the development of communes began. This boosted up the economy in Europe as it was in Europe. Japan depended more on markets which were located on beneficial locations where crossroads and near rivers were present so that goods could be transported easier. Japan’s economy also improved with advanced agricultural techniques and metallic coins.
