OpenStudy (megannicole51):

Does the sum converge or diverge?

OpenStudy (kewlgeek555):

Well, I think this might help. http://tutorial.math.lamar.edu/Classes/CalcII/ConvergenceOfSeries.aspx I think it will help you understand, and it is a reliable site.

OpenStudy (megannicole51):

The series of n=0 and b=infinity of (n+1)/(2n+3)

OpenStudy (psymon):

It diverges. Just using the divergence test, which says if the limit of the original a sub n as n goes to infinity is NOT zero, then the sequence diverges.

OpenStudy (psymon):

*series

OpenStudy (megannicole51):

Its 0 bc the ns cancel out?

OpenStudy (psymon):

The limit if you were to treat it as a function would be 1/2

OpenStudy (megannicole51):

Yes thats why I got confused bc all of the ns canceled leaving me with 1/2

OpenStudy (psymon):

Yeah, I think one of the trickiest things about series is you have limits of functions and you have limits of series, their results being VERY different. Some rules can confuse on when to use what. In the end, the simplest test is to just look at what you started with and see if you can find its limit to infinity. If it isnt 0, the function as a SEQUENCE diverges.

OpenStudy (megannicole51):

Okay thtank you! And yeah it sucks

OpenStudy (psymon):

Yeah, np :) When you get tothe ratio test, if you havent already, that is usually the most reliable test if the limit of the original function is 0.

OpenStudy (megannicole51):

Yeah im studying for my exam

OpenStudy (psymon):

Gotcha. Yeah, I thought sequences was the most annoying partof calc2 x_x

OpenStudy (megannicole51):

Yes yes it is

OpenStudy (psymon):

Well when something else comes up in your studying let us know :P

OpenStudy (megannicole51):

I will thank you!
