an experiment to determine the value of pi

OpenStudy (kewlgeek555):

What? What do you mean? Are you asking if it would be considered an experiment to find the value of pi?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Google.

OpenStudy (ash2326):

@dust7799 We can measure this using a string, Make a circle with know radius on a piece of paper or a big drawing sheet.

OpenStudy (ash2326):

Now align a string or thread on the outline of the circle, you'll need to measure the length of string used to cover the outline of the circle.

OpenStudy (ash2326):

The length of the string used is the perimeter of the circle or the circumference. We already know the radius, use this formula: \[\pi= \frac{\text{length of the string}}{2\times r}\]

OpenStudy (ash2326):

Obviously this method will only given an approximate figure, and it's prone to a lot of measurement errors. But a simple experiment to measure the value of pi
