OpenStudy (erinweeks):

I tottally neeed somee help :(

OpenStudy (erinweeks):

OpenStudy (erinweeks):

(i.) f(x) (ii.) f(x) (iii.) What can you conclude about f(x)? How is this shown by the graph? (iv.) What aspect of costs of renting a car causes the graph to jump vertically by the same amount at its discontinuities?

OpenStudy (erinweeks):

@ganeshie8 can you help?

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

is that the whole question ?

OpenStudy (erinweeks):

yea !!

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

okay :) wat does x-axis represent here ? and y-axis represent ?

OpenStudy (erinweeks):

Im honestly not sure :(

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

me too.. usually they tell wat they represent in the question itself

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

the listed four options... those are the ones your supposed to answer is it ?

OpenStudy (erinweeks):

im suppose to answer all of them questions!!!

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

okay did u notice, i and ii are same !

OpenStudy (erinweeks):

On the left side of the graph it says Cost (dollars)!

OpenStudy (erinweeks):

no there not i has - after 60 ii has + after 60

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

well from where this 60 popped up all of sudden ? :)

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

i dont see it in any of ur FOUR questions your supposed to answer :o

OpenStudy (erinweeks):

omg im sorry i didnt post all of it ..gimme a sec im so soory

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

okay lol

OpenStudy (erinweeks):

(i) \[\lim_{x \rightarrow 60-} f(x) \]

OpenStudy (erinweeks):

(ii)\[\lim_{x \rightarrow 60+} f(x)\]

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

ty now these make sense

OpenStudy (erinweeks):

(iii.) What can you conclude about \[\lim_{x \rightarrow 60} f(x) \]? How is this shown by the graph?

OpenStudy (erinweeks):

(iv.) What aspect of costs of renting a car causes the graph to jump vertically by the same amount at its discontinuities?

OpenStudy (erinweeks):

those are all 4 im sorry

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

have a look at graph, at x=60 wats the value of function ?

OpenStudy (erinweeks):

56?

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

thats right ! cuz we see a thick circle at 56, and an open circle at 68 so the value is 56.

OpenStudy (erinweeks):

were doing i first right?

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

now we starting first one. for i) look at graph again, this time look at SURROUNDING values at x=60, and answer below :- wat value the function has on left side at x=60 ? wat value the function has on right side at x=60 ?

OpenStudy (erinweeks):

56? 68?

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

yup ! so the left side limit is 56 \(\large \lim_{x \rightarrow 60-} f(x) = 56\)

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

and the right side limit is 68 \(\large \lim_{x \rightarrow 60+} f(x) = 68\)

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

we're done wid i and ii questions .

OpenStudy (erinweeks):

damn that wasnt that hard

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

haha i knw u wud say that lol

OpenStudy (erinweeks):

i thought that was going to take me jut a hour to understand lol

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

for iii, let me ask a question :) did we get same answer for i and ii ? in other words, ``` Is left side limit = right side limit ?

OpenStudy (erinweeks):

No!

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

Since, left limit = 56 right limit = 68 \(56 \ne 68\), left limit \(\ne\) right limit. So..

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

\(\large \lim_{x \rightarrow 60} f(x) = DOES~~NOT~~~EXIST\)

OpenStudy (erinweeks):

okay dokkiee (:

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

:) in the graph we see that, at 60, as u move slightly left, u getting 56 as u move slightly right, u getting 68. so there is a \(discontinuity\) in the graph at x=60.

OpenStudy (erinweeks):

okayy that was easy too ...

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

(iv.) What aspect of costs of renting a car causes the graph to jump vertically by the same amount at its discontinuities? i think u can answer this ? list all the x-values where discontinuities occur (just list down all the x-values where graph JUMPS... )

OpenStudy (erinweeks):

So 68 , 56 , 44 , 32?

OpenStudy (erinweeks):

thats all its asking tho?

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

they want the 'x-values' that make the graph JUMP.

OpenStudy (erinweeks):

okay i listed them all correctly?

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

x = 20, 40, 60 are the aspect that CAUSES the graph to jump vertically by the same amount of 12 units UP.

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

put that, ur teacher wil be impressed :)

OpenStudy (erinweeks):

okay dokiee thank you so muchh

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

np :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

He is right, I'm impressed as well...
