Why is it not possible for a function defined by a polynomial of degree 4 with real coefficients to have zeroes of 2, 3, 5, and 1+i?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

imaginary zeros always come in pairs if that 1+i was in there then 1-i must also be there, that would make 5 zeros for a 4 degree poly which is not possible
