How did DDT nearly drive the Peregrine Falcon to extinction in the 1950s and 60s? a. reproductive disruption b. blindness c. cancer d. feather loss
A As I recall. DDT caused this to happen through the food chain of events. The falcon would eat his prey which in turn was eating produce or insects that had been sprayed in the fields to kill rodents. Causing the falcon to lay eggs with very thin shells that would break and crack. Causing unborn death from impossible incubation since they would be crushed easily with the pressure of the parent bird to heat the eggs. After the researches discovered these results they took the Falcon and the Condor into contained environment settings to feed them until the cycle of DDT. Please see internet details for links.
