Can somebody explain why -64 squared is not a real number?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it is, just not the square-root

Because when you square any number you are multiplying it by itself. -8^2 and 8^2 both will get you 64. There is no real number that will get you -64 when you square it Is that what you are asking?
