Determine the equation whose roots are -1,-5, and -3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Roots of an equation mean places where f(x) = 0. You remember how to find the solutions of a quadratic equation by factoring, right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

um kinda but not really

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The point is if you remember how the solution always ends up looking. \[(x - a)(x - b)\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh yes!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So if there are three roots... how will that look? :D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

(-1--5) (-1--3)... right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No.. it's going to be in the form of \((x - a)\) terms.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The solution of \(x - a\) = 0 is just a. The solutions of \((x-a)(x-b)\) = 0 are a and b... And so on.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh ok
