OpenStudy site is world wide viewable without even a login. Any age person in the entire world can just click on OpenStudy, choose a topic, and pop up the open or closed questions and the chat. This makes it advisable to deal with OS like you are in a room with everyone from age 4 to 84 there. Friends, relative, strangers, and so on. All at once. Now, how would you choose to act in that environment?
I would choose to behave morally as if i was a student in my community.
choose to represent openstudy in positive way.
This post is amazing! Just the other day we had some inappropriate "joke" on OpenStudy. Where people actually thought it was okay to do such things. I had even PM'd the individual who still could not understand why he should not have intervened in the situation.
OpenStudy is a wonderful website that does not deserve to be abused! I feel as if we should treat our peers the way we would want to be treated :)
That's like a biblical point of view, don't do to others what you don't want to be done to you, or something along these lines. I can totally see that, but someone needs to teach dummies like me too.
@e.mccormick VERY TRUE When you said " This makes it advisable to deal with OS like you are in a room with everyone from age 4 to 84 there"
word
LOL and you bring a very good point. I try to present myself with poise here, and you can't do that if you just sit back and letting people talk shenanigans in the chat… which tends to happen a lot on here
I think you should act appropriate and nice. In every chat here on OS for example, the mathematics chat. I think they should be only talking about mathematics since it is the mathematics chat. But, they just talk about nonsense and usually cuss or bring up fights. But, OS is not supposed to be like that, it is supposed to be a site to encourage and help people do better with their work/school, or basically anything they need help with.
You are right about that @mangorox
@mangorox @JazzyMLee9 I don't agree. Removing all non-math from math chat is pointless because math questions go into the question area, not the chat area. The chats are where off topic is allowed so that people don't spam the site with off topic elsewhere.
Ok than you know what I'll agree with both and not taking sides @thomaster and @mangorox
I think the most important utility of chat function (other than to divert all off-topic stuff away from the mainstream) is to get a group's attention toward any particular question or post. This wont work if most people in the chat area have no relation to the corresponding subject whatsoever. Also, it wont work if we heavily censor chats (to remove all off-topic stuff) as most people will not check the chat window so often. Still, the chat window gives an at a glance impression to a newbie about OS and therefore it is advisable to have a "Code of Conduct" for chat window also.
I agree @LastDayWork
