WHICH EQUATION BEST REPRESENTS THE LINE GRAPHED ABOVE?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (freethinker):

for for intercepts

OpenStudy (freethinker):

knowing that the equation of a line in the y-intercept form is y = mx + b and b is your y-intercept, look at the graph where the line crosses the y-axis. that is your b

OpenStudy (freethinker):

now that you have b, to find the mx in the y = mx+b let us go back to the one of the definitions of a slope. a ratio of change in y and change in x or "rise over run" from your y-intercept (b value) count how many steps up or down and how many steps forward or backward before you touch the other intercept x (x-intercept is the part where the line cross the x-axis)

OpenStudy (freethinker):

do you need further clarification @Emily778

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (freethinker):

what part don't you get?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wouldn't it be y=1/2x-1?

OpenStudy (freethinker):

you got it!

OpenStudy (freethinker):

make sure it is written as (1/2)x because 1/2x might be mistake that the x is together with the denominator 2
