Does 3(5y+6)-4=11y+14, 11y+18,15y+14,15y+2?which one is the answer?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok the first thing you need to do is distribute the 3 to 5y+6. do you know how to do that?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No im just bearly learning this stuff.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok thats fine. what you do is multiply the 3 by 5y and the multiply the 3 by 6. each time you multiply the 3 you keep it seperate from the last time you multiplied. does that make sense? i attached a picture that might help clarify this.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay so my answers are 15y and 18 what do I do then?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok then you use the -4 and slide it right next to the +18

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So it would them be 15y+ 18-4?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes! and now since +18 and -4 are like terms(as you get farther into algebra you will hear that term quite a-bit) you subtract 4 from 18..which leaves you with??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The answer is 15y +14 right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

YAY!!!!! Thank you so much!!!! For all your help I appreciate it!!
