can someone look this sentence over? make it less awkward maybe? THANKS! The altering symbol the scaffold represents in The Scarlet Letter greatly contributed to the change in Reverend Dimmesdale’s nature.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The altering symbol in The Scarlet Letter that the scaffold represents at the beginning is humiliation, persecution, alienation, and confession, only later did the symbolism change when Reverend Dimmesdale's climbed the scaffold putting himself in the accused's position of his own free will to admit his own guilt. After, once again the symbolism changes when Hester and Peal join the Reverend making it symbolic of human bondage and becomes a safe haven from criticism. But through all these examples it demonstrates that the alternating symbol went from punishment and Hardship to one of Freedom and Harmony.

That how you say that. It would be impossible to write that in one sentence because one sentence can not supply sufficient information for it to make sense of the Reverend's actions.

wow impressive...thanks. but i can't use that whole thing :O was looking for a revision of just that sentence as i already got the rest of my thesis done :D

AHHHH ...I see

OpenStudy (anonymous):

If that is the case the only other way to make it less awkward is: The altering symbol, the scaffold, represents in The Scarlet Letter greatly contributed to the change in Reverend Dimmesdale’s nature.

The altering symbol in The Scarlet Letter, the scaffold greatly contributed to Reverend Dimedale's nature

Do you have to use the word "nature" at the end? Because if not I think the word "Action/Actions" would flow and sound better. But that is up to you
