The characters of The Canterbury Tales have both flaws specific to medieval society and universal flaws that transcend time periods. Two flaws that stood out for me were vanity and greed because of the many allegorical characters that exemplify them. One of the characters that can be considered vain is the Wife of Bath. She only wore clothes made from the finest cloth and even her shoes were “soft and new.” The doctor displays greed, but he is only one of the many. His greed is ironic as the person whose job it is to help people is actually keeping them sick in order to make money.
