skylar paid $18 to park at the airport. she brought 4 plane tickets for her family. each plane ticket cost the same. altogether she paid $610 for the plane tickets and the parking. What is the cost for each plane ticket?

zepdrix (zepdrix):

Hey! \(\Large \color{royalblue}{\text{Welcome to OpenStudy! :)}}\)

zepdrix (zepdrix):

Ok so ummmm, let's see..

zepdrix (zepdrix):

She spent 610 on everything. So we'll set 610 equal to all of the little pieces. She spent the same amount on each ticket. Let's call that amount \(\Large x\). If we bought 4 tickets, then the amount spent on tickets would be \(\Large 4x\).

zepdrix (zepdrix):

She also spent $18 to park. So altogether she spent $610, on the stuff we listed above. So we can setup the relationship like this:\[\Large 610\quad=\quad 4x+18\]610 dollars equals 4 tickets + 18 for parking. So from here we want to solve for x, the price of each ticket.

zepdrix (zepdrix):

Understand how that equation was setup?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes i do

zepdrix (zepdrix):

Do you understand how to solve for x from that point? :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

let me solve it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is x 148?

zepdrix (zepdrix):

x = 148? Yes, good job!

thanks for the help
