Celine has a bottle that contains 20% of milk and the rest is water. The bottle has 1 liter of water. Part A) Write an equation in one variable that can be used to find the total number of liters of milk and water in the bottle. Define the variable used in the equation. Part B) How many liters of milk are present in the bottle? Show your work. -- I know this one is easy, but my mind just doesn't want to work right now. ):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think you can do something like \(.8t = 1\) where \(t\) is the total amount of stuff in the bottle.

I think I have to put all the numbers in one equation. Then I solve it.. I can solve it, I just don't know what to write for the equation.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What's wrong with the one I wrote? :D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It doesn't have the 20% and stuff. o:

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It says one variable. So I used the total amount of stuff in the bottle as the one variable. You can get the amount of milk by doing \(.2t\) because milk is 20%, and it's really just making the problem more contrived to do anything else. A bottle of 20% milk and 80% water sounds disgusting anyway.
