I can't figure out how to factor this quadratic equation ): I need to find the solution(s) to 2x^2 + x - 5 = 0

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I was trying to factor it but I really can't figure it out.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It is not factorable. Use quadratic formula or completing the square to solve for x.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ohhh okay, hold on I'm gonna do that on some scrap paper and I'll tell you what I get

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I got\[\frac{ -1\pm \sqrt{41} }{ 4 }\]but I'm not sure how to simplify it from there... I can't find any perfect square values to divide 41 by.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You cant break down sqrt(41)..those are your two answers

Oh okay, thanks!

welcome.
