how do predator and prey limit each other's growth rate?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The predator and prey relationship depends completely on each other. If there are too many predators, the growth rate of prey will decline. If there is an increase in prey, that allows for the predator population to increase (more food, less competition among species for survival). If the prey population declines, the predator population will also decline because there isn't enough food to sustain the population. If predators decline, prey population will increase because more of the species will be able to survive. Also related to carrying capacity. Hope this helped (:

If the predator eats all the prey, the predator will have nothing left to survive on and both there populations will go down, but if they live in balance both they numbers will stay healthy.
