Ellen plans to have two children but doesn't know if they are boy-boy, girl-girl, or boy-girl. What is the probability that she will have two girls? 0.25 0.5 0.75 1.00 I know the answer is .25 but how do you get that answer?

when one event is independent of the outcome of the prior event, you multiply the probabilities together.

3*3?

i just need to know how to solve to get .25

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the probability of having a boy or a girl the first time is 50% or 0.50 the probability of having a boy or a girl the second time has nothing to do with whether the first baby was a boy or girl, it is also 50% or 0.50 so 0.50*0.50 = 0.25 or 25%

OpenStudy (wolfe8):

The probability of obtaining two consecutive events is the product of the probability of each independent event.
