how would i make a f(x) equation into a porabala

OpenStudy (anonymous):

f(x) = x^2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok the equation i want to make into a porabala on a graph is f(x)=1(x+2)^2+8

Quiet Easy!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

That is a a parabola. You mean how do you graph it?

OpenStudy (thejax):

The standard form of a parabola's equation is generally expressed: \[y=ax^2+bx+c\] The vertex form of a parabola's equation is generally expressed as : \[y=a(x−h)^2+k\] <rules taken from : www.mathwarehouse.com> (h,k) is the vertex If a is positive then the parabola opens upwards like a regular "U". (same as standard form) If a is negative, then the graph opens downwards like an upside down "U".(same as standard form) If |a| > 1, the graph of the parabola widens. This just means that the "U" shape of parabola stretches out sideways . If |a| < 1, the graph of the graph becomes narrower(The effect is the opposite of |a| > 1).

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok so when im graphing it the vertex would be 8 and the x points would be 2?
