Help please!! :)

convert these unlike fractions to equivalent like fractions and add them you must use the LCD to get the answer correct.. If possible reduce the final sum 1/4 = ?/? + 5/12 = ?/? __________________ ? ? __ = __ ? ?

OpenStudy (dumbcow):

yep you got it...now what is the LCD

OpenStudy (anonymous):

haha no that's the exact question they asked me I just gotta find out the question marks but I'm having a terrible time I tried on problem and thought I was 100% sure on it then I got it wrong lol

OpenStudy (dumbcow):

well what did you use as LCD?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

this is exactly what i put 1/4 = 1/ 2 + 5/12 = 5/6 = 6/ 8 = 3 4 and I got 1/8 right

OpenStudy (dumbcow):

how does 3/4 = 1/8 ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no I got 1 out of 8 right haha

OpenStudy (anonymous):

my final answer was 3/4

OpenStudy (dumbcow):

anyway its all wrong because you dont know what the LCD is LCD = least common denominator its the number where multiples of each denominator are equal example: LCD of 3 and 4 is 12 3,6,9,12 4,8,12 LCD of 5 and 10 is 10 5,10 10

OpenStudy (dumbcow):

what is LCD of 4 and 12 ?

OpenStudy (dumbcow):

sorry but i gotta go...i will post solution and hopefully you can work through it \[\frac{1}{4}+\frac{5}{12} = \frac{3}{12}+\frac{5}{12} = \frac{8}{12} = \frac{2}{3}\]
