-5x + 7 42

what do you need

I'm assuming that's supposed to be \(-5x + 7 = 42\) and you're trying to solve for x. You need to get x by itself. So the first step is to subtract 7. Remember that you have to do the same thing to both sides: \[-5x + 7 - 7 = 42 - 7\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-5x+7=42 -5x=42-7 -5x=35 -5x/-5=35/-5 x=-7

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-5x+7=42 (-5x+7)-7= 42-7 -5x= 35 -5x/-5= 35/-5 x= -7
