Factor the following expression completely:x^2+9xy+8y^2 please I need to do all my exercise by midnight help me!!!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OK, so there is an x^2. This shows the first term of the both factor expressions is \(x\). $$(x + by)(x + ay)$$ This is what we have so far. Now, we ask what two terms can we add to get 9xy and also multiply to get 8y^2? Well, we are essentially solving the linear system: $$(a + b)xy = 9xy \\ bay^2 = 8y^2$$ The obvious answers to this is a = 1 and b = 8. Thus: $$(x + y)(x + 8y)$$
