Why were medieval ships unsuited for long-distance voyages? Medieval ships were designed mostly for moving goods, troops, or warfare. Medieval ships used the less efficient triangular sail. Medieval ships had to be built out of soft woods like pine. Medieval ships used a longer keel, a taller mast, and a heavier wood.

Both A and D seem right, but I would go with D more than A. I would choose D because if the wood was heavier why would you want that to be your long-distance ship?
