Anyone in FLVS ENGLISH 4!?
Whatcha need?
1.08 macbeth graphic organizer Dx
Oh. Well, can't help you on that. I'm not in that class, but I do like English.
are u familiar with the play macbeth?
I've watched it a few times.
Roman Polanski's version is the best one, imo.
I need 3 events in the story the text support to each and why its important Dx I don't understand old english :/
I don't know what version im reading
I meant to say, film version. The text you're reading is no doubt Shakespeare's text.
well shakespeare is not my favorite person .-.
If you knew his work more, he would be.
i only liked romeo and juliet because i had the english version
I have to ask, because I come across a lot of people who want to do the assignments without reading the test. Have you read it?
yes I read the play over and over and over :/ I know that the 3 witch sisters tell a prophecy that Macbeth can also be the Thane of Cawdor but at first he doesn't want to be it then he becomes greedy and wants to kill for the title
Shakespeare was an English playwright. All of his works are in English. I like Franco Zeffirelli's film "Romeo and Juliet." It's excellent.
you know alot more then me about this stuff
I'm probably a lot older than you. :) You'll have a chance to watch them, and I'm sure you'll love them. Okay, anyway, I can help you with this.
okay thank you! and yeah im 16
So, they are asking you for three scenes that you found interesting. That would be the first thing to do. Do you think you can recall you're favorite scenes?
Because if you can, I'll make my list, while you make yours.
Or if you're stuck, we can talk about the play. That ought to help.
Talk about the play! because Idk what happens. I don't get what the lines mean
Okay.
thank you
It's a truly great play. How long do you have to discuss it with me?
all night haha
Okay. Great.
By Sinel's death I know I am Thane of Glamis; But how of Cawdor? The Thane of Cawdor lives, A prosperous gentleman; and to be King Stands not within the prospect of belief, No more than to be Cawdor. can I put that as a quote? its when he finds out about the prophecy I think D:
The play opens with the witches. That's a great scene. Very eerie. There are tons of them throughout the play. Two others that strike me as particularly good is when Macbeth learns that the guy (forgot his name) was brought into the world by Caesarian section.
You can quote short passages for your assignment. They probably don't want you to quote too much.
so shorten that quote?
How long before your assignment is due?
monday but I need to do it tonight because im busy friday saturday and sunday
You really should give yourself some time to enjoy it and to think about it. Why don't you watch it with your friends? I'll help you out. I'll enjoy talking about it. But you can also talk about it with your friends after watching the movie.
I ask my friend and he gives me a bunch of websites
Hmm. :(
I just wanna graduate I don't wanna do this I have too much to do :c
Okay, well, would you like to watch it with me, online? (You know, at the same time.) We can comment on it while we watch it. That's the best way to learn.
is it the same as the written one?
Yes.
okay is it on netflix?
I'll find it on YouTube. The idea behind the class is to get you interested in this stuff so that you can enjoy it for the rest of your life. You know what I mean? Maybe not Shakespeare exactly, but plays and stuff like that. To be able to watch them, to understand them, and to enjoy them. It's important. Anyway, I'll find the film now.
Thank you and I do like plays, I watch broadway plays but old english is not my thing
Okay. I'm looking. Sometimes it takes a little time to find a video, but I usually do. Be back in a moment.
okay no problem im doing like 6 other things Dx
But you have time to focus on the movie, don't you? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SbywWyryftM
yeah I can focus on it
okay I got it
This one is really good because it has the text on the screen. Usually I wouldn't like that, but it'll help you.
okay good
are those the witches ?
It starts off with a bang, you gotta admit that. Lightning strikes and thunder) :) I also love the creepy sisters and the way they talk. "When shall we meet again. . .?"
Yep. That's them.
haha okay :D
yup im lost now who r they?
I said sisters. I think they're sisters. Not positive. It's been years since I watched this. AND this is one of the versions I've seen. Polanski's is the best, but this is pretty good, also. Have you ever heard the name Polanski before?
no :/
See, that's why it's good to be informed. It'll help you piece things together throughout your life. Polanski's wife, actress Sharon Tate, was one of the people that Charles Manson's group murdered. Maybe you haven't heard of Manson yet.
nope never heard of him.. no one informs me of anything! i teach myself everything
That's a rotten deal. :( Well, sometimes you learn it better that way, but myself, I'm always interested in discussing things with people because I learn more that way. Anywho, on to the movie. Don't feel lost about the witches. It's just the set up for the play.
i was lost about the men
One thing you want to keep in mind is that Shakespeare didn't write the plays for people to read, he wrote them so they could be performed. Many, if not most, of the people in his audience couldn't read.
oh ik all about shakespear
Let's stick with the witches for now.
shakespeare*
k. Cool.
What the witches say has to do with the play's entire plot.
its all about the prophecy right?
Yes. It's also a way of leading us into the play. It's also what's called "foreshadowing." "When the war is won and lost." for instance, is about what happens at the end of the play. Clever, huh? the way Shakespeare sets up the end of the play at it's beginning.
wow thats good
Yeah. :) I misquoted the dialogue though. Make sure you double check the text. If you have it in MS Word or some program like it, you can add notes and underline things, etc. "When the battle's lost and won."
Thank you so much !
its not like a everyday play kinda.. no effects etc..
You're very welcome. I know I'll need to speed things up a bit, or it'll take all weekend to get through the film. BUT I think it's worth talking about this opening scene a little more. Okay?
haha yeah it will take a while but it will also help me in the future! c: and okay
Yeah, I hate it when they load up a movie with lots of explosions and all of that. What that usually means is that they don't really have much to say in the movie. Some professors have an expression that you might hear said in class -- after the grading of papers. "If you can't impress them with the facts, dazzle them with the boloney." Haha
haha i never have heard of that ! are u in college?
Great. And yes, it really will. Okay, well, these are just my thoughts. It's noting "official" but I think there's a reason why he {Shakespeare] has the witches say "lost and won" rather than "won and lost."
hm maybe their is a reason idk
The way I have it figured, more or less, everyone's the same age online. Nope. Not in college.
so beyond college lol
Here's what I think. The witches are setting MacBeth up. That's what the prophecy does. It's similar to what the Gods in Greece did. For instance, there's this famous story about a Persian king named Xerxes. He asked the Oracle at Delphi, "Should I go to war." and the Oracle told him, "If you go to war you will destroy a great nation."
"To infinity, and beyond!" Buzz Lightyear. Haha
im guessing ur really good at history ;o
haha awh there is the child in you! :D
I've done a lot of studying. I find this stuff fascinating.
Yep. Always will be. :)
apparently you do! i find english class a waste of time I wanna learn about things that will actually help me in life. I was to be a doctor and learning about old english is NOT gunna help me, its so useless
Nope. It's not, at all. PLUS, if you want to be a doctor, you have no idea HOW MANY wierd words you're going to come across--so brace yourself! :)
yeah but the words are in latin and i already know italian and spanish, latin wont be too too hard to learn
Wow! I'm way impressed!!!
haha :p i learned italian before english Dx
I don't like old English, either. But that was the only language he had to work with, so we're stuck with it. Same thing with Ben Franklin's guess about the way electricty travels. (The plus and minus signs. ) he had a fifty percent chance of getting it wrong--and he did. That's something else we're stuck with. You'll find out about that in your Physics classes.
oh yay another class to look forward in college for
I'm always impressed by people who know more than one language. Three is really impressive. AND it'll pay off for you later on.Being multi-lingual can amke you more valuable to a company.
Yeah. heheheh
and i am intermediate in american sign language XD
Okay, I guess we ought to get to the movie before sunrise. :)
