Hi, Anyone know Pre-Calc? I could use some help.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what specifically?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what is it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yeah. You have to know what you need help with so that people will know how to help you. What is it about pre-Calc that's giving you a problem?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay I need to know how to identify the graph of the equation x^2 + 3xy+2y^2-3x+2y+10=0 then find theta, the angle of rotation

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I know that it is a Hyperbola

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So i just need to know whether the angle is -36 or 36 and how to tell

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay, well, we know that pre-Calc is basically a review of Algebra and Trigonometry classes, only a bit tougher. And, they introduce limits don't they? Anyway, that's an interesting equation you have their, but I don't get how you can find an angle of rotation from it. Someone help ME out.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yeah ditto that is why I am stuck

OpenStudy (anonymous):

That's the entire problem? Really? You sure?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

here I will upload a snapshot

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay. That'll help.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay. Got it. Do you have Microsoft Word?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Great. Do you have the free plug-in Microsoft Math?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no? is that part of Microsoft word? or a separate program?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'll walk you through installing it, if you have time. It's a great add-on.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay I am installing it now :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Cool. It'll really help with all these problems. I mean, you know, help people talk about it with you.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

shoots. Unfortunately I cannot download it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Actually, I just started mine, and I realize there are two features. One works directly with Word, while the other is a graphics calculator that works independently (don't know if someone has to have Word for the Calculator to work.) But it's called Microsoft Math 4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'll help

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay

OpenStudy (anonymous):

http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=15702 That's the page you'll find it on. Just click the download icon. If it doesn't download, you might not have an up-to-date computer set up.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay it is installing through the wizard. I have an up to date computer with windows 7 os on it. I just have a weird version of word lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

:) Okay. Once you get it installed, you can find it in your programs location. I usually place a desk icon or some other easy to find place for something I use a lot.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay cool. It is starting up

OpenStudy (anonymous):

k.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay it is up now

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what do I do?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I placed it in mine, but I didn't have it equal zero, so I ended up finding a 3D graph, which isn't going to help (me anyway). Let me place it in again.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Do you have your equation in? If you type it in on the keyboard, you need to use the carat key. Know what that is?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I just copy pasted?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so yes i do :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What did you get?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

a very long equation

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yeah. Me too. :( Well, we can find the answer.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What I have is a minus x AND a minus y What about you?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I mean the answer has a minus y and a minus x (negative) Know what I mean?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no i have a

OpenStudy (anonymous):

whatever that is lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

How did you get the image on here? I'd like to know how to do that.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay so you have a snip tool on your computer (if you have windows) just type snip tool into the windows search when clicking the windows button the the left had bottom corner of your scrreen

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay

OpenStudy (anonymous):

click on the snip tool then click new. draw a box starting in the left corner to the right. a window will appear with your image, click the save button that looks like a floppy drive and then decide where and under what name you would like to save it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

then click save. now go to the attach file button under the window that you are typing in to chat. you can search for you file under the name by using the upper right hand search box in the window that pops up. click on the file. then click open. then post. wala :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay. Got it.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yay

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Here's what I got for an answer. This is important.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

In that case wouldnt it be -36?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm a math student, just like you. So, I think the way to find the answer is to know which quadrant the minus is in, right? Is that how you came up with -36?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay. yes. and I guessed on the -36 based on what the point look like I am going to try graphing them

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay. When I tried graphing it in 2D, I didn't get a viewable graph.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah it will not let me graph that

OpenStudy (anonymous):

http://www.purplemath.com/modules/synthdiv.htm

OpenStudy (anonymous):

^that is another equation solver

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Alright well I think we are stuck, my teacher said he would get back to me tomorrow with how to do it so I will post the instructions on here if you are curious of the result? Anyway thank you for your help, and for showing me the math program :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thanks for letting me know about that plug-in.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

That's the problem with classes. Here, we learned a bunch of stuff, but we aren't certain of the answer. Anyway, do you want to keep in touch with the math problems?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes. I'm curious about the result.

OpenStudy (anonymous):
