Factor the trinomial: 3x^2y-11xy+8y I've already taken out the GCF: y(3x^2-11x+8)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I don't think this cleanly factorises, the best simpler form I think I can come up with is: x(x+6) +9, but this is not proper factorises, is this definately the equation you have been asked to factorise

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yeah, that doesn't work. I was thinking it didn't factor... Just thought I would get a second opinion.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah i do not believe it factors either

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok so have you definatly been asked to factorise it or have you been asked to find its roots?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No, I'm just factoring it. I changed the question to another one I'm having issues with.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ah yes i have just realised that, now that one does factorise

OpenStudy (anonymous):

remeber there are only two ways you can create 8 from integers

OpenStudy (anonymous):

2 and 4 or 8 and 1... I'm just not sure what factors will multiply to 11.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

*Negative 11, I mean.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok so the solutiont to this is:\[y(3x-8)(x-1)\]
