please what is the difference between speed and velocity

OpenStudy (kmeis002):

Velocity is a vector. A vector is a mathematical object that has magnitude AND direction. Speed is called a scalar, it is just a magnitude. Speed is the MAGNITUDE of velocity. Think of it this way, you can describe the speed of a car by saying it is driving at 25 mph. This only tells you a magnitiude. But, if you say the car is driving 25 mph EAST, now you have told me two things, magnitude and direction (which is a vector)
