OpenStudy (mathlegend):

So where is the point located on the y-axis?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

(0,0)

OpenStudy (mathlegend):

Good, so you see that the x-value there is also 0 for the coordinate. When ever you have (0, #) you have solved the part of the equation that is the "b" in the formula y=mx+b So b = 0

OpenStudy (mathlegend):

Now, you can literally count from point (0,0) a.k.a. the origin... up to (2, 6)... count how far it goes up the y-axis... first and tell me what you get.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

up 6 and over 2

OpenStudy (mathlegend):

Do you understand what I am saying?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sort of. thats the m right?

OpenStudy (mathlegend):

|dw:1382661958890:dw|

OpenStudy (anonymous):

up 6 and over 2. thats what i said..

OpenStudy (mathlegend):

Yes... sorry I must not have noticed that.

OpenStudy (mathlegend):

m = 6/2 which reduces to what?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

y=3x+0?

OpenStudy (mathlegend):

You can just say y=3x

OpenStudy (mathlegend):

But same thing...
