I have a couple questions can someone help me

OpenStudy (anonymous):

a cup on the teachers desk contains 12 pens there are 3 pens with blue ink and 9 pens with black ink one student at a time selects a pen at random to sign the attendance sheet and then puts the pen back in the cup what is the probability that the first three students all randomly select a pen with blue ink?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1/4 1/27 1/64 1/220

@primeralph @Zale101 @mathstudent55 @mathaddict4471

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@amistre64

OpenStudy (anonymous):

do you know how to do it?

OpenStudy (primeralph):

(3/12)^3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so 3/12 x 3/12

OpenStudy (primeralph):

In 3 places.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what do you mean

OpenStudy (primeralph):

(3/12)^3 is not (3/12)*(3/12).

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh oops 3/12 x 3/12 x 3/12 because its cubed

OpenStudy (primeralph):

Yeah.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1/64?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I have another question if you can help me

OpenStudy (primeralph):

Maybe.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The first four terms of a sequence are shown 1/8, 1, 8, 64 Which expression can be used to find the nth term in the sequence

OpenStudy (primeralph):

You tell me what you think.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1/8 (8) ^n - 1 8(1/8)^n-1 1/8(8)^n 8(1/8)^n

OpenStudy (anonymous):

those are the possible choices I was typing them

OpenStudy (primeralph):

Let's see you try it tout.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well im trying to figure out what the set is

OpenStudy (primeralph):

*out. Take your time to figure it out. You'd have to try for me to help.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

um well im confused by the n - 1 how does tht work

OpenStudy (anonymous):

8 x 8 is 64 1 x 8 ix 8 so I mean tht links together

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and 1/8 x 8 = 1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so that all links up and it looks like its times 8

OpenStudy (primeralph):

n-1 means subtract 1 from n.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I don't really know what they want because I know its multipled by 8 now but that isn't an answer soooo

OpenStudy (primeralph):

You were on the right track.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I don't know what to do next
