universal themes in literature come from what carl jung called?... -the tarot -the archetypal theme -the collective unconscious -the dream psychosis anyone know???

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I know the answer

OpenStudy (anonymous):

then what?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Do you remember who carl jung was?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no i tried looking up information on this question and nothing helped

OpenStudy (anonymous):

They must have mentioned him in class. Anyway, he was a psychiatrist, a bit like Freud.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So, we can rule out Tarot card reader.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i wasnt there and okayy

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Do you know what a psychosis is?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

disorder?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yup. So, we can rule that one out also.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Now we're left with only two candidates.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the archetypal theme?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Nope.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

He did have a theory--a good one--about the mythological archetype. But that's not the answer. We, all of us, have a collective unconscious. We all are born with ideas that we can tap into and other people can understand.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You're welcome. Do you want to talk about this anymore? You'll need to know this if you want to be a creative writer, etc.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i have other questions related to archetypal characters that im not sure about

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay. I think it's really interesting stuff--and you'll come across it time and again in your academic life.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okayy thank you

OpenStudy (anonymous):

do you know how archetypal characters help readers and writers? im not sure if im right but i chose "they make readers and writers analyze the past and other cultures"

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Just got back from helping someone else.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

That sounds like a good answer. But is it the BEST answer? What are the other choices?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the others are: -they are popular amoung readers and writers -they are easy for writers to create and for readers to analyze -they provide a familiar place to begin analyzing the story or engaging the audience

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Is there a D, all of the above? It's probably the last one. Hey, I found out a lot about this stuff from watching a guy named Joseph Campbell. He was a long-time professor of mythology at Sarah Lawrence college for women. Want to watch something a brief lecture. You might get interested in it yourself?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well the other choice is the first one that i sent you

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I know. :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm just trying to help you out so that you don't have to look this stuff up every time you come across it. It'll save you a lot of time in the long run and it's good to know.
