1/4 and 5/8 LCD

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well 1/4=2/8 so what divides into both 2/8 and 5/8?

OpenStudy (skyz):

Honestly I don't even know...

OpenStudy (skyz):

I'm just so confused

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay so 2/8 = 2* (1/8) 5/8= 5* (1/8) what is common in both of these equations?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i do presume by LCD you mean lowest common divisor?

OpenStudy (skyz):

No no no Sorry Lowest common denominator

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

same thing

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

it goes by about 3 different names

OpenStudy (skyz):

Oh it does?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yep exactly the same thing :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

because in essence the denominator is actually a divider

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

the LCD for \(\bf \cfrac{1}{4}\qquad \textit{and }\qquad \cfrac{5}{8}\ will be a number that we could be divided by both "4" and "8" like say 32 is divisible by both. or say 40 is also divisible or say 400 is also divisible but we need the smallest, the LEAST

OpenStudy (skyz):

Yes

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

shoot the LCD for \(\bf \cfrac{1}{4}\qquad \textit{and }\qquad \cfrac{5}{8}\) will be a number that we could be divided by both "4" and "8" like say 32 is divisible by both. or say 40 is also divisible or say 400 is also divisible but we need the smallest, the LEAST

OpenStudy (skyz):

But I am working with aleks. I do not like Aleks

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

aleks?

OpenStudy (skyz):

Yes Aleks.

OpenStudy (skyz):

Its Hard to explain what it is

OpenStudy (skyz):

Our school is all about a new tech program

OpenStudy (anonymous):

can you try? then we can maybe help you :)

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

sometimes old tech, is better than new tech like pencil and paper =)

OpenStudy (skyz):

Really all it is is a online math class... except our teacher expects us to learn from it but frankly thats quite difficult

OpenStudy (skyz):

We all have laptops used for the schools new tech system we get to keep these laptops and take them home do homework/studies and be expected to know all of it by the next day

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay so back to the maths problem :) if 1/4=2/8=2*(1/8) 5/8=5*(1/8) what is common in those two equations?

OpenStudy (skyz):

Uhh 8?

OpenStudy (skyz):

Sorry im VERY slow.. Actually im slower than normal

OpenStudy (skyz):

And am new to this so

OpenStudy (skyz):

Im*

OpenStudy (anonymous):

or one over eight...ie an eighth so (1/8) is common in both of the fractions

OpenStudy (skyz):

Aleks is looking for a singular answer? Not a fraction?! Or is that not all?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yep, so if the fraction is 1/8, then the denominator is.....?

OpenStudy (skyz):

8

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes!!

OpenStudy (skyz):

Wow.. I feel utterly stupid. but thats ok! i know i still have more room to grow in this head... surely
