How does the fetus excrete metabolic waste?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A fetus gets rid of its waste products through the umbilical cord. The umbilical cord is attached to the fetus at the belly button.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Most of the waste of the fetus is gotten rid of through the blood flowing in the umbilical artery from the fetus to the mothers placenta, and is afterwards gotten rid of together with the mothers waste. Shortly before the fetus is expelled, the fetus is then able to pass out small amounts of urine, and this urine is mixed with the amniotic fluid in which the fetus is contained.

The fetus can excrete urine into the amniotic fluid but there is very little waste in it. The mother's body works to attend to the other exchanges. Because babies are not eating, there is no waste as we know it. Unborn babies in distress may pass meconium, a dark sticky substance which lines the bowel, and is usually passed in the first days after the birth but is different to feces.

OpenStudy (chaosguardian14):

The umbilical cord carries the metabolic waste from the fetus to the placenta, where it diffuses into the maternal blood.
