William Byrd was known as a “genius” of what instrument?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Piano, Violin, Sagbut, Lute

OpenStudy (anonymous):

From what I found it looks like he played the piano.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

William Byrd was a pupil and protégé of organist and composer Thomas Tallis, and they worked together for several years. Byrd's musical stature can hardly be overrated, as he wrote extensively for every medium then available except, it seems, the lute. His virginal and organ music brought the English keyboard style to new heights and pointed the way to the achievements of other English composers. http://www.biography.com/people/william-byrd-9233628

OpenStudy (anonymous):

One minute I found something on the lute...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

William Byrd ... Byrd was the leading English composer of his generation, and together with ... and genius outshining those of Palestrina and Lassus in a self-evident way. ... as well as having some of his works arranged by others for the lute. The Lute. Music played an important role in the life of the people of the Renaissance. .... works of John Dowland, William Byrd, Thomas Robinson and Anthony Holborne. These talented musicians brought to the lute a genius

I am confused lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

He played a lot of instruments and I looked them all up to make sure that I had the right one. He only played the organ so the piano is not it. I couldn't find anything about him playing the violin He played the sagbut but it doesn't say anything about him being a genius of it. I am pretty sure that it is the lute.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yet, he is sometimes considered one of the first "geniuses" of the keyboard and many of his piano compositions were published in My Ladye Nevells Book and Parenthia

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@watermelon16

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes? I am just trying to figure out which one it is because his biographies are confusing on which instrument he was a genius at. Just one second...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I can't find anything about him playing the piano. I just see him playing the organ.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The piano pieces that he has are based off of his organ pieces.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay, thank you for your help :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No problem! I hope that I actually helped. I just told you what I found. :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

IT did :)
