Hexagon DEFGHI is translated on the coordinate plane below to create hexagon D'E'F'G'H'I'.
Which rule represents the translation of hexagon DEFGHI to hexagon D'E'F'G'H'I'?
Select one: a. (x, y)→(x + 4, x - 2) b. (x, y)→(x - 7, y + 7) c. (x, y)→(x + 2, x - 4) d. (x, y)→(x + 7, y - 7)
What point does D lie on?
1,-1 and -6,6
Yeah. D is on (-6,6) D' is on (1, -1) So if you want D to get moved to D' : \[ \textrm {for x:} \ \ -6 + ? = 1 \\ \textrm{for y:} \ \ \ 6 + ? = -1 \]
wait am I supposed to plug in numbers
? I mean, you can plug in each of the answers and see if it works, or you can just solve the equation. Looking at D, for your x coordinate, you want a number that when added to -6 will give you positive 1 - that's the "translation" they're talking about. -6 + n = 1 Looking at y, there's a number that when added to positive 6 will give you negative 1. 6 + m = -1 That'll give you (x,y) -> (x + n, y + m) Follow?
yea I follow
I didn't know what you meant by plug in numbers... Sorry :/
hmm... im trying to ask a question vut don't know how to word it
ok so we are supposed to find the value of m, n,y and x right
actually I think its B.. am I correct
just m and n. (x, y) has a value for each point in the hexagon DEFGHI; If you find m and n by looking at the points at D, then the rule it should hold true for all of the points. :) And it's not B If we apply the rule that B says (x - y, y - 7), then looking at D D(x,y) = (-6, 6) It will give us D' = (-6 - 7, 6 +7) = (-13, 13) which is incorrect
~~~ sorry, rule B is (x - 7, y + 7) I wrote it incorrectly
so the answer has to be D because none of the other ones make sense
yup yup :)
thnx u really helped me a lot
You're welcome. Glad I could help ^^
