Hexagon DEFGHI is translated on the coordinate plane below to create hexagon D'E'F'G'H'I'. Which rule represents the translation of hexagon DEFGHI to hexagon D'E'F'G'H'I'? (x, y)→(x - 8, y - 7) (x, y)→(x - 4, x - 5)

OpenStudy (zpupster):

take an x,y ordered pair say D which is (2,5) and D' (-6,-2) and look to see if you see an answer if not 2+x = -6 solve for x 5+y= -2 solve for y

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so it would be -4,3 ?

OpenStudy (zpupster):

to solve for x 2+x = -6 subtract 2 from both sides this isolates x 2-2)+x = -6-2 x=? do the same for y

OpenStudy (zpupster):

don't forget to check a few of the other points also.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Let's look about the point H and the point H'. H is (2, 1); H' is (-6, -6). 2-8=-6, 1-7=-6. So (x, y)→(x - 8, y - 7) is correct.

that actually makes sooo much sense !!! thank you !!
