Can anyone explain derivative for me please?

terenzreignz (terenzreignz):

@Chineseboy15 Why so serious?

OpenStudy (vivek3461):

Geometric way of interpretation: To find a slope of any curve you minimum need two points. This tells about how much is the change of Y for a given change in X. But assume that you are asked to find the slope of the curve when only one point is given. Is it possible..? The answer is yes. The slope of the tangent line drawn at that point gives the slope of the curve ( Here slope means rate of change of Y with respect to X ). This is nothing but the derivative of Y with respect to X. Note : The slope found using two points is the average change of Y with respect to X. The derivative gives the instantaneous change of Y with respect to X.
