OpenStudy (kayne):

Hey people! How can one measure the carbon dioxide uptake of cyanobacteria or microalgae in general?

OpenStudy (aaronq):

you can use a CO2 gas sensor on a known number of organisms.

OpenStudy (kayne):

Thanks @Yetter and aaronq. But do you know some other methods? Simpler than that in that paper? And what if I don't have a CO2 gas sensor?

OpenStudy (kayne):

@aaronq

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I do not know of any simpler methods. I'm sorry.

OpenStudy (aaronq):

Not without some method of detection of CO2, direct, or indirectly. You could (very crudely) determine the amount of CO2 present in air by measuring the pH of water.

OpenStudy (kayne):

Thanks loads people. Gonna check the possibilities out.

OpenStudy (aaronq):

no problem. If you're interested in doing research where you don't already have equipment, i suggest at least getting a pH meter.

OpenStudy (aaronq):

unless you don't mind doing lots of titrations

OpenStudy (kayne):

I prefer using the pH meter really :) Thanks again for the suggestions!

OpenStudy (aaronq):

haha yeah, me too.
