What was one result of the collapse of the Western Roman Empire? The bubonic plague killed millions in the Mediterranean region. The Byzantine Empire lost control of North Africa. The city of Constantinople was taken over by the Ostrogoths. Justinian I was unable to reclaim Spain.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Snappy, which one do you think it is?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Which ones can you rule out?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What about the first one? Can you rule that one out, and why?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Justinian I was unable to reclaim Spain. Answer

OpenStudy (anonymous):

How do you figure that?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I guessed that it could not be any other answer

OpenStudy (anonymous):

And right you are?!!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Was this the correct answer,Thank you for your help.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I did it the same way you did, but deletion of the answers that couldn't be right. I actually don't know for a FACT that it was Justinian I.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

By deletion

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The plague doesn't have anything to do with it. The Byzantine Empire is in the East, not the West. Constantinople is the capital of that empire, so it must be Spain, which IS in the West, right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well, I looked into it, and I don't know what I'm talking about. :( I thought the Byzantine Empire was just a small area to the east of the Roman Empire.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well, I am going stick with my answer

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm going to study up on the Byzantine Empire, because this was embarrassing. I always thought I was good at history. But looking at that map I just did really surprised me.

OpenStudy (96mertcank96):

actually A would be the correct answer because after the plague hit the western roman empire most of its population got perished and it was difficult to rebuild after several years with no success the different Germanic tribes coming from Scandinavia and the British isles they formed a group and took over most of the land of the western empire just leaving enough land in the Balkan region which ceded into the eastern empire eventually this lead to the crumble of the western empire.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

But the plague was *not* the result of the collapse.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Don't get me wrong, I like your well-written reply. But it doesn't work in with the question being asked.

OpenStudy (96mertcank96):

b has nothing to do with the western side c has nothing to do with the western side because Constantinople was the capital of the eastern side d is not the correct answer because the recapture of Spain didn't lead to the collapse of the western side the take over of Rome affected the empire a lot ( it was the main capital) which later lead to the destruction of the emipre

OpenStudy (anonymous):

All well thought out statements @96mertcank96 but reread the question again.

OpenStudy (96mertcank96):

yes it is asking for one reason of the collapse of the western roman empire and the answer would be A i would have been more sure if the Mediterranean part was not part of the answer.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No, sir, it is not asking for a "reason," it's asking about the RESULT.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Not the reason FOR the collapse, the RESULT of the collapse.

OpenStudy (96mertcank96):

well done i must have read the question wrong... :P any way in that case i agree with your answer sorry for wasting your time

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You didn't waste my time, new friend. It's all about learning something. We both got something out of it.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok am I correct. Justinian I was unable to reclaim Spain?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

:( That's the biggest problem with the school program is having everyone get hung up on "getting the right answer". Not your fault of course, but :( I don't know if it's that or not. Want to watch something about the Byzantine Empire on YouTube? I'll bet they have the answer there.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thank both of you for yor help.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You're welcome. They actually have a REALLY good 12.5 minute video on him. Starts off with the Hippodrome. Incredible for the time--or even our time.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thank you. In the morning I will watch

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Here's the link. It's really knocked my socks off. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gNH7bhBaR5Y

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It's not A, the collapse of an empire couldn't have started a disease. I think it might be B, because after the collapse of the Western Roman Empire, the Vandals kept North African dominance. Constantinople was the capital of the Eastern Empire and they fell to the Ottoman Turks, so it couldn't be C. And for D, Justinian sent a general, Belisarius to reconquer old Roman territory, and he was able to retake Spain. Not really sure about it, but just wanted to try and cancel out some answers. ^^ That's a good video @DonaldRoyMiller

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Jcar is really onto it!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Indeed I have! (:

OpenStudy (anonymous):
