There are three stages of General Adaptation Syndrome. 1. In the Alarm stage, our bodies release hormones, like cortisol and adrenaline, so that we can deal with the stressful situation that is happening. ---------- 2. In the Resistance stage, our bodies try to calm down, and get back to normal. If the stress isn't there anymore, then....that's great. Our hormone levels and blood pressure go down. But if the stress IS still there, then our bodies try to get used to the stress, by continually pumping hormones and keeping our blood pressure high. ----------- 3. In the Exhaustion stage, our bodies can no longer deal with the high blood pressure, or high levels of hormones. Our nerve and muscle tissue suffers from injury. And because of this, we become much more vulnerable to heart disease, arthritis, and depression.
