what are you solving for?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
L
OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):
ok, divide both sides of the equation by WH
OpenStudy (anonymous):
ok i understand that but what whould that answer to that be.
OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):
V / WH = LWH / WH
the right hand side simplifies

ok so would the final next equation be V/WH=LWH?
OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):
the hight hand side LWH / WH simplifies by cancelling factors common in the numerator and denominator
OpenStudy (anonymous):
Oh so V/WH=L then are you done or is there more?
OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):
that's it V/WH = L
or L = V/WH
OpenStudy (anonymous):
oh ok thanks. do you have time for one more

if your quick,
OpenStudy (anonymous):
ok 2X+Y=2 solve for y
OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):
2X+Y=2
to get Y by itself , we have to get that 2X to the other side
to do this take away 2X from both sides of the equation
OpenStudy (anonymous):
but 2x is only on one side not both
OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):
take away 2X from the left, and minus 2X on the right

Ok that makes sense but my math teacher said you cant subtract a 2x from a two or a 3x from a 5. because they both dont have a variable.
OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):
your right in the sense that the terms on the right do not simplify
but the terms on the left hand side do
2X + Y = 2
2X + Y -2X = 2 -2X
OpenStudy (anonymous):
ah ok thanks I think I got it now.
OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):
what's the final solution for Y?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
Ok fine I lied still don't get but it's cool I'll just ask my teacher tomorrow thanks anyways. But just a guess does Y=2-2X?

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):
you got it , y=2-2X is the result you were looking for ,
OpenStudy (anonymous):
Oh ok cool so one more does 3X+Y=3 solve for y equal, Y=3
OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):
almost . something is missing
OpenStudy (anonymous):
Y=3-3x?
