Which of the following is true of quotation marks? A. They can be used to add emphasis to a word. B. They're always used in pairs. C. They can be used around paraphrased material. D. They're necessary to set off all titles.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

B, you have to have one at the beginning and end of something you're putting in quotation marks!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm not sure if that's what you're looking for but that's what I'd say!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thanks

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I would say that both A and B are right, however B would be the "more right" answer because no matter what they are ALWAYS used in pairs where as they CAN be use to emphasize a word, but more often than not you are going to find an emphasized word in italics or capitalized. C Is not likely because when you paraphrase something you leave it without quotes, and D is unlikely because typically titles are underlined not quotationed.

OpenStudy (jaketylerbarreto):

The answer would be C. The only reason I believe this is because when you're paraphrasing you may also ask a question.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@JakeTylerBarreto No because when you paraphrase you leave it unquoted. If you would read what my previous response was :)

OpenStudy (jaketylerbarreto):

Oh, you're right. I misread it, oops.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@JakeTylerBarreto It happens, No problem :)
