Patrick Henry made a speech to the (Second Revolutionary) Virginia Convention on March 23, 1775. Also known as his "Give me liberty or give me death" speech, after its final line, the speech was addressed to members of the Virginia House of Burgesses (formally spoken to the President of the Convention, Peyton Randolph, but meant for all). The specific point of the speech was to convince the Burgesses to vote a resolution to prepare for war by calling out and arming the Virginia militia. Henry had to overcome the complacency of delegates who mistakenly believed Britain would respond to the appeals and pressure from the colonies (including their recent threats of an embargo, initiated by the First Continental Congress) Thus Henry was attempting to convince them that all attempts at compromise had done no good and to continue down that road would only weaken the colonists' position. Britain's troops, he declared had been sent to repress the colonists, so they must join the other colonies and prepare to fight NOW. Here you go buddy, feel free to ask any other questions. :)
