Find the length and width of a rectangle whose length is 4 cm more than its width

terenzreignz (terenzreignz):

If we let w be the width of the rectangle, what is the length?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you can have any two numbers you wish so long as the length is w+4 cm. So I guess you could use w=4cm and the l=8cm or w=5cm and the l=9

OpenStudy (anonymous):

seems like something is missing, how can a question have many solutions, it should give area or something to make it more specific

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I know! i dont see how i can solve it without more information. We are doing quadratic equations, I dont know if that helps

OpenStudy (primeralph):

@staceydanielle92 Is the question complete?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes it is complete that is all the information it gives us

OpenStudy (primeralph):

No area given?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No area was given

OpenStudy (primeralph):

Well, L = 4+W.
